The day our hearts stopped with a phone call...

"Oh, please, God, tell me she's okay," I begged. The photo sent to my phone did not look good, and my fears quickly got the better of me. No message was sent with the photo, but I could tell immediately it was Abby's car.

What kind of accident breaks an axle and tears off the wheel? Especially in a vehicle she faithfully services between two of the best mechanics in Vail?

Bill could tell something was wrong; my face said it all. The phone rang, it was Abby. I couldn't hear her side of the conversation but could tell it wasn't a life-threatening emergency. I could also tell she was shaken.

She was leaving her brother's apartment, and while driving through the parking lot, her axle broke, and the wheel came off, going over a speed bump. She said she was going five mph, maybe ten mph. It was the first speed bump right outside her brother's apartment.

I believed her since it's unlikely she burned rubber, getting the vehicle to 40+mph before the first speed bump.

We spent the next two hours on the phone with her as she navigated getting a tow truck and her first Uber. All the while, you could tell her stress was high since it was after 10 pm, and she had classes the following day and a job interview.

Thankfully, her sweet brother stood guard and watched over her while she navigated this fiasco. He also called his buddies, took numerous photos, and promised a slew of relentless jokes from now until eternity.

God bless older brothers.

Her second text of the night informed us that the Uber driver had safely returned her to her dorm, allowing us to sleep peacefully last night.

This morning, we learned that driving over speed bumps at five mph will cost almost $2,000, so Abby is now contemplating buying a new car or fixing this one...again.

It's exhausting to repair vehicles constantly, but I am confident she will navigate this one like a champ. She already showed tremendous adaptability when she hired another Uber to take her to her job interview. This "kid" is going places.

On a happy note...here's a cute photo of our bible study this morning.
